Dishwasher Not Cleaning? Start Here
When a dishwasher stops cleaning, the machine is usually innocent and the conditions are guilty. Water arriving too cool, spray arms clogged with mineral scale, a filter nobody knew existed, and Williamson County hard water explain most cases. Work through these in order and you will either fix it or know exactly what to tell us.

Hot water does half the cleaning
Dishwashers depend on incoming water near 120 degrees to dissolve detergent and melt grease. If the water heater is set lower, or the kitchen tap takes a minute to run hot, the dishwasher fills with lukewarm water and washes poorly from the first minute. Run the kitchen tap hot before starting a cycle and notice the difference for a week before blaming the machine. Our dishwasher repair visits always start with an inlet temperature reading for this reason.
Detergent matters too, but second. Old, clumped powder and pods stored under a steamy sink both underperform. Fresh detergent in a dry place is the cheapest experiment in appliance repair.

Spray arms, filters and hard water scale
Pull the lower spray arm and hold it to the light: clogged jets, usually white mineral scale here, starve the wash of pressure in patches, which is why some spots on the rack clean and others do not. Soak arms in vinegar overnight for scale. Then find the filter at the tub floor, because many newer models have a removable filter that wants rinsing monthly and quietly ruins cleaning when packed.
The white film on glasses in College Grove is usually hard water deposit, not detergent failure. A rinse aid, a dishwasher cleaner cycle and, for some homes, water treatment are the honest answers, and our appliance maintenance visits cover the machine side of that list.

When it really is the dishwasher
Call if the unit fills weakly or not at all, if the wash motor hums without spraying, if water stands in the tub afterward, or if cleaning collapsed suddenly rather than fading over months. Sudden changes mean a part, usually the inlet valve, wash motor or drain system, and those are testable in one visit.
